I am an enthusiastic landscape artist. Most of my paintings are executed or at least started outdoors. After studying the figure and still life, my focus and passion endure for painting outside, surrounded by my subject matter.

A painter can study his subject directly in the studio, where conditions and lighting are constant. Being outdoors is a different matter. There can be many challenges but the experience and direct observation of the subject are always worth it. Editing a vast landscape in to viable painting is not the least of those challenges.

While utilizing my foundation skills in oils, I try to go beyond creating a good painting and imbue my images with the emotional connection that compelled me to paint the subject. It is my hope that the viewer will sense this positively.

Besides studying the teachings of recent masters such as Edgar Payne, John Carlson and Emile Gruppe, I have also developed my style out in the field with some of the top landscape painters of today: Scott Christensen, Matt Smith, Kevin Macpherson and Michael Situ.

In the past few years, I have travelled extensively to paint. I currently live in the beautiful atmosphere of Santa Fe, New Mexico, where there is hardly a day that doesn’t beckon a plein air painter to venture forth.
